The Home Secretary will soon submit to the Government a report containing the recommendations of the discussion with the employees who are continuing their struggle in the Secretariat. The committee is of the view that the government should take a policy decision if the demands of the candidates are to be accepted. Therefore, the decision of the candidates is to continue the strike.
Last Grade Servants candidates see the success of the negotiations after 26 days of struggle. Although seven demands were raised in the discussion, the most important were the creation of posts and the extension of the rank list. The list is due on August 3 and will not be extended now. Officials have assured that the extension will be considered if the list is not released by that time. No additional posts will be created. Instead, vacancies in all departments will be reported within five days. Candidates who hope in these assurances will continue to strike until an order is issued.
The bureaucracy is also ambiguous about those on the civil police list. While the candidates claim that there are about 3200 vacancies, the police say that there are no vacancies. The government cannot extend the list as it has been canceled. Therefore, it is the policy decision of the government to create additional posts in the police or to take a stand in the court to extend the list. The Home Secretary reports to the government clarifying these matters. But the CPI (M) has decided to continue the strike vigorously.
Today, the leaders will decide whether to end the hunger strike of the Youth Congress, which continues for the seventh day. The strike is expected to continue till Rahul Gandhi arrives on Tuesday.
