Protest against military coup; To Myanmar conflict; Two killed in shooting; 30 injured

Bangkok: Protests against military coup in Myanmar are escalating into clashes. Troops opened fire on protesters, killing two people. Thirty people were injured. The protest took place in Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city.

The army used rubber bullets to disperse the protesters. A large police contingent and army were deployed to stop protesters at the Yadanurban shipyard in Mandalay. The protesters asked them to withdraw, but the security forces refused. They were then stoned to death. It was rumored that the army had decided to detain a group of workers who had joined the protesters. Protesters demanded that the army withdraw.

An 18-year-old and a 36-year-old were killed in the shooting. Thousands take to the streets to protest against the military regime. On February 1, the military overthrew Aung San Suu Kyi’s government and regained power in Myanmar. The protests are mainly demanding the release of imprisoned leaders.
