The FDSEA requests a meeting with Grégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyon, to express their dissatisfaction with the establishment of a single meatless menu in the city’s school canteens on February 22.
“Enough is enough !“proclaims the FDSEA of the Rhône in a press release co-signed with Jeunes Agriculteurs Rhône. The Departmental Federation of Agricultural Unions wants to meet Grégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyon, on February 22, to oppose the establishment of ‘a unique meat-free menu in Lyon’s school canteens A mini-farm will be set up in front of the Town Hall and a meat tasting will be organized.
The breeders let it be known that they will come “with technical and quantified arguments of the negative impact of imposing such a regime on children in the 2nd city of FranceThey also consider the measure discriminatory vis-à-vis students who do not have access to meat at home.
As a reminder, the City of Lyon explained that it was implementing a single menu without meat (but with eggs and fish) in school canteens, not for political reasons, but for health. The goal is to make meals more fluid to respect lunch time and health constraints. The measure must begin at the start of the school year on February 22 and last until the Easter holidays. For breeders “the covid crisis does not excuse everything“.
A similar measure had been taken at the end of the first confinement, under the previous term of office, without provoking as many reactions.
