In the night from Friday to Saturday, the fire service evacuated 64 homes as a precaution from a flat on Eper Veste in Epe, Gelderland. A fire had started in an indoor meter cupboard. Two residents are to the hospital for a check, another resident who had inhaled smoke could be checked on the spot by ambulance personnel.
The fire started at 4:30 a.m. and was under control around 5:45 a.m. The fire brigade then started ventilating the building. Measurements are also performed on carbon monoxide.
Due to the smoke development, it was scaled up to a major fire, reports the North and East Gelderland Safety Region. Several fire-fighting vehicles and aerial work platforms were involved in the extinguishing.
The residents of the houses are accommodated in the flat itself and in a nearby sports hall. It is not yet clear when they can return to their home.
