[사회]”20 people have one shower room”… Concerns about additional infection at Namyangju factory

[앵커]

At the Namyangju factory where the group infection occurred, dozens of foreign workers who tested negative were self-contained in the same dormitory.

Factory officials told YTN reporters that dozens of quarantines lived together and shared a bathroom.

Is that you are in an environment at high risk of infection.

Reporter Park Hee-jae reports.

Foreign workers wearing masks are lined up in the factory dormitory building.

Workers at the Namyangju plastic factory, where more than a hundred people were infected, were quarantined in the dormitory for 2-3 days after being confirmed, and then transferred to the treatment center.

“(Teacher, how many people are you evacuating today?) About 16 people today.”

There were also testimonies that the environment inside the factory dormitories where they were isolated was vulnerable to quarantine.

In a phone call with YTN, the first confirmed person at the factory testified that about 20 people had shared both the bathroom and the dining room in an enclosed space without windows.

[A 씨 / 남양주 공장 노동자 : (한 방에 두 명 있었나요?) 두 명도 있고 다섯 명도 있고요. (식당도 다 같이 쓰셨던 거에요?) 네 (화장실도요?) 네.]

Concerns about further group infections are also growing, saying that 20 workers who are negatively tested or subject to retest also shared a shower and toilet.

[공장 기숙사 관계자 : 여기는 개인 화장실이 없어요. (대기하면서 다 같은 화장실을 사용하셨어요?) 네.]

In particular, most of the factory workers here are known to be illegal immigrants without private residences, and management was in danger.

Justice Minister Park Beom-gye visited the site and said that quarantine is the top priority over crackdowns by foreign workers, and asked that the Korean government do not hide as much as it is possible to test for Corona 19 regardless of visa status.

[박범계 / 법무부장관 : 신분 확인 없이 비자 확인, 비자가 있는지 여부를 확인할 필요 없이 검사가 가능하니까 숨지 말아달라….]

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun also criticized relevant ministries for not taking precautionary measures against the workplace where foreign workers gathered.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor has decided to conduct special inspections for over 15 days in 1,000 locations including foreign employment workplaces across the country.

The number of cumulative confirmed cases related to the Namyangju plant exceeds 130, and infection cases are also occurring in Gangwon and Jeonnam beyond the metropolitan area.
