They are an almost daily nuisance for thousands of students, parents and teachers: technical problems in distance learning. Hamburg’s school senator Ties Rabe (SPD) commented on Friday.
At the moment, a technical service provider in particular is causing problems, which almost a third of Hamburg’s schools use for home teaching on the “LMS Learn Hamburg” learning platform. It’s about the service provider oncampus.
“Energetically” pointed out problems
“We immediately contacted this company,” said the school senator. “We have emphatically pointed out that, as a service provider, you also have an obligation here to fulfill your services. We have also offered support. But that’s just the way it is. It’s like at your home when the computer doesn’t work.”

IT specialists are needed who are now working flat out on a solution, says Rabe. He wants to inform the schools concerned on Monday how they can work with other programs. Many are already using providers who are critical of data protection officers. The school senator turns a blind eye: “As long as the corona pandemic continues: What works is good and will not be changed.” Even if they were commercial American providers.
At home instead of school for more than two months
For more than two months, most of the students in Hamburg have been taking part in lessons from home – for example via video conferences or tasks that are available on servers.
