Seven years after the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, NYU’s Tisch School of Arts has chosen to pay tribute to the actor. The establishment has set up a scholarship in the name of the star of Truman capote, one of his most illustrious students. According to Variety, the 50,000 euros of the Philip Seymour Hoffman scholarship will be awarded to drama students who demonstrate financial need, academic merit and artistic talent.

“Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the greatest actors of our generation. This scholarship will inspire students of Tisch Drama to follow his enchanting ways on screen and on stage, embodying those moments that are so evocative of the human experience, and give them the opportunity to flourish. Phil was loved by his peers and fans and he often expressed his gratitude and love to those around him. With this scholarship, I hope to continue Phil’s legacy of human warmth and generosity by creating a means for Tisch Drama students to reach similar heights, ”said James Declan Tobin, the producer who partially funded the implementation of this student aid.

Star totale

Philip Seymour Hoffman died in 2014 of an overdose, after a complicated battle with addiction. In the cinema, besides Truman capote, which won him an Oscar for best actor in 2006, he distinguished himself in The Master, The Steps of Power, or Magnolia and Boogie Nights. It was at the initiative of his mother, Marilyn O’Connor, that this honor was established by New York University.

“NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts was my son’s first choice to start his acting career. He was enthusiastic, challenged and energized by the environment and its teachers. Phil never forgot his time there and pursued a remarkable career in theater and film. He would be happy to help someone else to have the same opportunity as him. This is our way of thanking the institution for supporting him during his studies and for continuing to work with him professionally after his graduation. We are grateful that he is being honored for his work as a student and actor in a way that will support the next generation, ”she said.
