MODENA “We are waiting for news from the government to arrive on March 5, but until then it continues to be kept open”. GimFive CEO Stefano Gambaccini has no doubts and intends to continue his protest, keeping some gyms open, including that of Modena Est, despite the prohibition imposed by government decrees.
A conscious choice, which Gambaccini defends by quoting Churchill: “The British Prime Minister said that if a people considers an unjust norm that norm must be changed”. Not even the penalties accumulated up to now by the gym and by customers stop GimFive, which indeed intends to bring its grievances before Parliament. “I have 90 families to support,” says Gambaccini.
“We are a group of 12 gyms (between Emilia and Tuscany, ed) – he continues – I am a well-known person in my sector in Italy, I am a “Serie A coach” in fitness. I was the first to open day and night. Here, business is serious. If the state forces me to shut down it must support me. But I don’t want refreshments: if I need 100 they don’t have to give me 2.
I don’t even pay for the toilet paper. In 2020 we lost 1.5 million compared to 2019. January 2020 was the best month +30 percent compared to the year before. We were growing, I had to open other 5/6 clubs, for a cost of 500 thousand euros each. We ask for support: a loan that can be repaid over the course of ten years and the state must act as guarantor with the bank ». –
