The library of the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies is a specialist library with eleven employees, which belongs to library area 04 (political and social sciences) at Freie Universität and thus to the university library or the FU library system. With its 780,000 media units from the entire spectrum of the humanities and social sciences, it has the largest special collection for North American studies in Europe. In addition to providing information to the John F. Kennedy Institute, the library therefore also has a supraregional service function that it performs with the support of the DFG. Together with the SUB Göttingen, she oversees the specialist information service Anglo-American Culture and History (FID AAC). The focus of the FID in the library of the John F. Kennedy Institute includes North American newspapers, TV series and comics.
Responsibility:
User services in the lending desk / user team: Lending booking with ALMA, user registrations, dunning, customer and service-oriented information for users about the library’s services and facilities, magazine work, technical media processing, if necessary, support for special locations, collaboration in acquisitions and cataloging, support the library management in public relations.
Employment requirements:
Successful training as a specialist for media and information services (specializing in library) or thorough and varied specialist knowledge corresponding to the area of responsibility
He wishes:
Practical experience in the lending desk or user department of a library, experience in the application of all functional areas of the ALMA library system, in particular use, knowledge of the relevant legal provisions such as B. the fee schedule, further IT knowledge (MS Office package), basic knowledge of handling content management systems, knowledge of using Facebook and other social media services, interest in social media services, knowledge of the RDA regulations, good Communication skills in German and English, very good ability to work cooperatively, flexibly and motivation-oriented within a team, pronounced customer and service orientation.
