ten minutes to convince … from a distance

All that was missing was the traditional handshake to seal the deal. By his ease and especially his selling points, Nicolas, future salesman, was able to convince his interlocutor, a seasoned professional in the field, to buy his products. And all this in ten minutes… by interposed screens.

Because the videoconference is the specificity of this 32nd edition of the Negociales of the IUT of Thionville-Yutz which took place remotely this Wednesday.

“The look in front of the camera”

Health crisis requires, the organizers of this competition which puts students in marketing techniques in a negotiation situation had to adapt. “We had to maintain it because it is a very formative exercise for our students,” explains Saida Nouiri, teacher in economics and business management. Other than that the exchange takes place through a screen, there is not much difference from previous years. The only aspect is perhaps the look in front of the camera. There, we really see if the candidate is comfortable or not. “

For Coralie, one of the nine student organizers of this edition, this commercial negotiation situation, whether physical or remote, is a necessary step in order to know how to best understand one’s future profession. “We are stressed anyway! Being judged by real sales professionals puts extra pressure on the classroom exercises. Personally, it’s more comfortable to do this interview from home, I have all my equipment available. “

“Get spotted by future recruiters”

Like Coralie, 70 students from IUT Thionville-Yutz participated this year in Negociales, a national competition that brings together nearly 6,000 salespeople in apprenticeship in France. For the northern Moselle, around twenty professionals responded to play the role of buyers and “kindly” note the performance of students in the shoes of sellers. A challenge “recognized in the profession which allows them to add a line on their CV and possibly to be spotted by future recruiters”, according to the teachers.

But before entering the world of work, the six students of the IUT of Thionville-Yutz qualified this Wednesday will have to make their negotiating skills speak for the grand national final in Épinal on May 5 and 6. Face-to-face this time, if possible.
