Orlando Magic’s Center Mo Bamba apparently attracts interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks a few weeks before the trade deadline. At the Magic, the number 6 pick from 2018 has not yet made it as hoped.
Like Marc Berman from the New York Post reports, the 22-year-old could become a trade target for the Knicks ahead of the trade deadline on March 25. The traditional franchise from the Big Apple has to do without starting center Mitchell Robinson, who broke his right hand, for several weeks.
Behind it, the center rotation with Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson looks rather thin. According to the report, the Knicks also had internal discussions about a potential engagement with Norvel Pelle, who was recently fired from the Brooklyn Nets.
The Knicks allegedly had their eye on Bamba in the 2018 draft. The 2.13-meter-man, born in Harlem, New York, could never really gain a foothold in Orlando, also due to various injuries. So far in the current season he has only been used in 12 games and kept being thrown out of rotation. Most recently, Bamba came up with more minutes, over the entire season he put up 4.9 points and 3.7 rebounds in 8.6 minutes.
In addition to the Knicks, Berman also names the Los Angeles Lakers as interested in the Big Man. The reigning champion has to do without Anthony Davis, who has a calf strain, for several weeks. Maybe that’s why the Lakers are looking for additional support for the front court.
