NBA Lakers host the Brooklyn Nets
LeBron James is no stranger to competition, and after having overcome the big-three of Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson during his Cleveland Cavaliers days, he is now set to take on the 2020 edition, with the Brooklyn Nets coming to Los Angeles on Thursday.
The Staples Center will play host to a match between the defending champions and perhaps their biggest challengers this term, with the Nets having a trio made up of Kyrie Irving, James Harden and Durant himself.
It is set to be one of the most anticipated matchups of the NBA season to this point, although the Lakers will be without Anthony Davis, leaving James to do battle on his own.
When asked about the talent he is set to face on Thursday, James himself was quick to point towards the aforementioned Golden State Warriors trio from 2016 to 2019.
“Um, have we already forgotten about KD, Steph and Klay? I mean, there you go, there you go,” he declared.
Those Warriors defeated James and Cleveland in two successive finals in 2017 and 2018, although James was able to take his first crown in the city that drafted him in the 2016 season.
Davis’ absence will make it difficult for the Lakers, especially with his defensive presence having been key in keeping both Harden and Durant in check.
According to data published by ABC news, the most points Durant, Curry and Thompson averaged in their three seasons together was 75.8 per game in 2018/19.
However, this term the Nets’ magic trio has averaged 80.7 points per game, and only time will tell if they can match the records set by the Warriors, but first they have to beat the King.
