Two major projects confirm Rennes as a stronghold of cybersecurity

Posted on Feb 17, 2019 2021 at 11:02

Rennes presents itself as a true capital of cybersecurity. According to the latest figures published at the end of 2020 by the town planning agency Audiar, 76 private establishments share more than 3,200 jobs in the cybersecurity professions. To this must be added the 880 “cyber-combatants” of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, which continues to strengthen its local skills.

To get closer, Anssi, the National Information Systems Security Agency, which reports to the General Secretariat for Defense and National Security, confirms its intention to open a major agency in Rennes. It will start in 2021 with a team transferred from Paris, then will recruit locally to reach 200 positions in 2026. Anssi is currently looking for premises with a surface area of more than 4,000 m² to accommodate its employees.

Anti-intrusion offices

At the same time as this project, the developer NGE Immobilier will build in the ZAC ViaSilva – Rennes Atalante areas – an office building of 7,600 m² ultra-protected against the risk of intrusion. It will be equipped with means of security worthy of “confidential defense”.

Named “Cyberplace”, this set, designed by the Alfonso Femia firm, and for which 20 million euros will be invested, will be able to accommodate digital companies that need a very secure working environment, says David Taglioni, director General of NGE Immobilier.

The computer networks will be duplicated throughout the building, where bunkerized areas will allow local businesses to develop products and services completely sheltered from prying eyes.

Almost identical cost

Rennes Métropole will occupy part of the building to host start-ups dedicated to cybersecurity. If the schedule is respected, the Cyberplace, whose construction will start in the spring, will be operational at the end of 2022. It will be managed by a suitable structure.

NGE Immobilier mentions other possible fully secure buildings of this type in other agglomerations such as Nantes.

Knowing that protection and anti-intrusion equipment will be provided from the design of the building, the “cost per square meter will be almost identical to that of conventional tertiary complexes”, points out David Taglioni.
