‘Stories to not sleep’, the reboot of Chicho Ibáñez Serrador’s emblematic Spanish series, returns to the screen




VIS, a division of ViacomCBS International Studios, will produce for Amazon Prime Video and RTVE ‘Stories to not sleep ‘, the adaptation of the iconic horror series by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador, in collaboration with the production companies Prointel and Isla Audiovisual. Rodrigo Cortés, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Paco Plaza Y Paula Ortiz They will direct the four episodes that will make up the format. Fifty years after its premiere, ‘Stories to Sleep’ once again gives the public the best of the horror genre with the power and talent of modern cinema. Rodrigo Cortand (who will shoot ‘The Joke’), Rodrigo Sorogoyen (‘The double’), Paco Plaza (‘Freddy’) and Paula Ortiz (‘The Asphalt’) will take care of these four stories Self-concluding, about fifty minutes long, that will make new viewers enjoy updated versions of the best stories by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador.

This week the filming of ‘The joke’, with script and direction by Rodrigo Cortes, a free reworking of Ibáñez Serrador’s original story that brings together three great actors –Eduard Fernández (winner of three Goya awards), Nathalie Pose (Goya for best actress in 2018 and nominated in this edition) and Raul Arevalo (winner of three Goya awards in different facets) – in a triangle of little edifying characters willing to betray each other as soon as their personal interest so advises.

The joke’ it is both a cinematographic diversion and a story of dialogues, characters and atmosphere that will provoke more than one guilty laugh in the viewer, showing that greed – like any other human impulse – can be terrible and comical at the same time.

Rodrigo Cortes

Rodrigo Cortés wanted to be a painter, writer and musician; Today he does it all at the same time by dedicating himself to the cinema. One of his first works, the mockumentary ’15 days’ (2001), became the most awarded short film in the history of Spanish cinema. He premieres his first feature film, ‘Concursante’ (2007), at the Malaga Festival, where he receives, among others, the critics award for best film. His second film ‘Buried’, shot entirely inside a coffin and starring Ryan Reynolds, shocks critics and audiences around the world after its presentation at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

His next film, ‘Red Lights’ (2012), with Robert de Niro, Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy, opens in more than 60 countries. He has produced such films as ‘Emergo’ and ‘Grand Piano’ (written by Damien Chazelle and starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack). In August 2018, ‘Blackwood’, starring Uma Thurman and Anna Sophia Robb, premiered worldwide.
