Difficult times for Werder Bremen and many other clubs in the national soccer leagues. In the corona crisis, the economic situation is anything but rosy. But the German Football League (DFL) is already creating facts for the new season.
According to consistent media reports, all clubs, regardless of their economic situation, should receive the license for the coming season in spring – including Werder Bremen. Meanwhile, the last suspended licensing process in German professional football is to be reactivated for the 2021/22 season. A corresponding decision by the 36 first and second division teams is expected at a DFL general meeting called at short notice this Thursday.
The licensing process begins in mid-March. Unlike before, there will be no conditions, but as usual there will be conditions that the clubs must meet. Violations threaten tougher sanctions up to a point deduction.
Werder Bremen and the other Bundesliga clubs have to meet license requirements
The trade magazine “Kicker” reported on it first. The report says that the clubs will have to prove in the fall that they have met the requirements. Important: The negative equity must not increase in the next season. Clubs that are particularly badly hit have to be careful.
Because of the corona pandemic, the DFL recently refrained from checking the clubs’ liquidity during the licensing process. The economically troubled clubs should be given the opportunity to cope with the effects of the crisis. Werder Bremen is also one of the clubs for which the pandemic has serious financial consequences. The balance sheet shows a record minus, the club has already taken out a loan of 20 million euros. The green-whites are currently even thinking of fan bonds as a financing option in an emergency. (han / dpa)
