They are awarded in different professional, sporting and human facets, with the awards scheduled for next March 6
The Assembly of the Municipal Council for Women, has ratified the proposal for the ‘Equality Awards 2021’, which will be delivered on March 6 at the Tourism Development Center. The people awarded this year are: ‘Premio Mujer 2021’ to Carmen García Fernández, the only woman patron of a boat in the city of Motril and Secretary and Treasury of the Andalusian Association of Women in the Fishing Sector (AndMuPes). Specifically, this association is a representative organization of women in the fishing and aquaculture sector of the autonomous community of Andalusia, whose main objective is to defend their economic, social and professional interests. “This recognition makes visible in a very special way the role of women in the fishing sector, both in our municipality and in our autonomous community,” says the Deputy Mayor for Equality, Inmaculada Torres Alaminos.
On the other hand, the ‘Equality and New Values’ award is awarded to Tamara Frías Molina who, with her young age, has a long history of success and improvement. She is the first local swimmer to be proclaimed absolute champion of Spain, in the 100 meters backstroke. In 2019 he added his first internationality with the Spanish team, being a finalist in the Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires.
And finally, the ‘Hombre por la Igualdad 2021’ award has been awarded to surgeon Francisco Antonio Herrera Fernández, Head of Service and Director of the UGC General Surgery and Specialties of the Motril Hospital; for human and professional quality and his commitment to solidarity actions, especially his personal involvement for the support in the fight against breast cancer.
Likewise, in the council session, the activities programmed for International Women’s Day were presented. Thus, on March 6, at the Center for Tourism Development, there will be a painting exhibition-exhibition “Creativity and new opportunities in times of crisis” by two women of very different styles Celia Rojas, and Charo Maya. There will also be activities such as encounters with literature, Conscious Walk “Walking together”, women in the History of Motril, following in their footsteps, by the historian from Motril Manuel Domínguez, and will be included in the Teleactiv @ s program of Tele Motril. Also, throughout the month of March, workshops will be held focused on women and equal opportunities.
During the assembly, the AFAMMER Association, CERES and the Red Cross presented the activities that they will carry out.
Finally, it was reported on the diagnostic phase of the Strategic Plan for Equality of Women and Men of Motril that is being carried out.
