Mother and daughter quarrel for 17 years over brand of Coke in Family Dinner

Jannie is still very excited that Jolanda decided to get cola that is not an A-brand. “I don’t like that fake stuff,” says Jannie The Family Dinner. “I came to my oldest daughter and she hadn’t bought it for me, not one can.” After 17 years she has not been able to let go of that. “I couldn’t laugh about it, because I only drank one can of Coke that night. Always just one glass or one can. I’ve always said, ‘You don’t have to buy a bottle for me, a can is enough.”

Presenter Bert van Leeuwen decided to get a story from Jolanda, the daughter in question. “I hadn’t thought of it. Just forget,” she explains. Later in the broadcast it comes to light that private label cola is not the only issue. Jannie: “[Jolanda’s] man then removed a cupboard from here. He came to pick it up, because I had it on loan from them. A very nice tea cabinet. He came to pick it up, unexpectedly on Monday, while he never knew any of the girls on Monday [haar dochters, red.] here is. That hurt me a lot. “

In the end, despite the gravity of the problem, everything will be fine. “If you look back it is really a shame. I love her”, mother Jannie admits in tears. The relevant episode of The Family Dinner leads to a lot of surprise on social media. ‘Yes, yes, it still exists: arguing about cola’, one viewer reacts cynically. “How deep can you sink?” another wonders. A third understands Jannie: “I could also argue seriously if someone offers the wrong brand of cola.”

The Family Dinner can be seen every Monday at 9.30 pm on NPO1. You see the episode with Jannie and Jolanda here back.

Presenter Bert can sometimes get ‘a little angry’ himself because of the separate quarrels in families. He talks about it in the video below.
