The government previously decided to withhold the AstraZeneca vaccine for those over 65 years old.
The delay in vaccination for the elderly, who are at high risk for COVID-19, will inevitably disrupt the overall vaccine plan.
The government has decided to secure an additional 23 million vaccines to address supply uncertainty.

The government has confirmed the introduction of a total of 79 million COVID-19 vaccines.
A total of 23 million additional contracts were signed, including 3 million Pfizer and 20 million Nova Bax.
500,000 Pfizer vaccines, which were initially scheduled to be introduced in the third quarter, are expected to arrive at the end of March, and 3 million more are expected in the second quarter.
20 million NovaVax vaccines will be introduced in the second quarter, and will be produced and supplied at domestic factories through technology transfer.
“Since SK Bioscience has the authority to supply and produce together, it is possible to supply vaccines to Korea more stably….”
The government’s effort to secure additional vaccines is to resolve supply uncertainty.
This is because vaccines are not supplied on time due to insufficient production compared to the demand for vaccines worldwide.
In the case of Korea, in the case of the AstraZeneca vaccination starting on the 26th, the elderly aged 65 years or older are out of the subject, and the overall vaccine schedule is inevitable.
Seniors 65 years of age or older have a high risk of dying from infection and a high rate of transmission.
“The most important thing is whether we can get the vaccine at the specified time, and it seems that whether we will be able to get a group immunity in November.”
Experts emphasize that it is necessary to strengthen the management of vulnerable facilities such as nursing homes before vaccination for the elderly, and to actively introduce antibody treatments instead of vaccines.
