Jerez taxi drivers meet with the City Council to assess the losses in the sector
Rubén Pérez, Jerez Mobility delegate, has received the new board of the Teletaxi Jerez Association, chaired by Alejandro García Núñez, to maintain a first contact in which different matters that are of interest to this group have been addressed, who has described the meeting as “very productive and positive”, in the words of the new president.
Also present at the meeting were the vice president of the association, Sergio Cabrera, and the secretary, Ezequiel Cortes, along with other members of the new board of directors, as well as technicians from the Mobility Delegation.
During the meeting, the difficult situation the sector is going through was analyzed due to the health crisis and mobility restrictions, which are having so many repercussions on the demand for the service and, therefore, for the economy of taxi professionals and your families.
In this sense, Rubén Pérez has given them details about the financial aid from the Contingency Fund, which the City Council is going to allocate to the sectors most affected by the health crisis, including the taxi, to which 20,000 euros will correspond.
“Now more than ever, the City Council is focused on helping the groups that are suffering the most from the consequences of this pandemic, and this aid will help promote initiatives that ultimately lead to increased sales.”
During the meeting, the association presented a letter with a series of proposals, including reducing the number of taxis that cover the airport route by half, currently 12, due to today’s low demand.
“Now we have a fixed shift of twelve colleagues who normally supply the number of flights satisfactorily, although, given the situation, we have requested authorization to vote among the members in order to reduce our presence by six members to optimize the service”.
In relation to this proposal, the group has promised to “be expectant about the possible changes that may occur in the evolution of the pandemic” and at the moment in which greater mobility is allowed and there are more flights, we will act responsibly and we would rethink the service at the Airport to adapt to demand ”.
Likewise, the taxi drivers have presented a proposal to change the corporate image of the Association “with a more striking and representative logo of Jerez”.
