The member for Beauce-Sud, Samuel Poulin, does not hide it. He was never a first in class. Throughout his school career, he experienced difficulties. This is why, in these times of pandemic, he wishes to help the young people of his county by giving motivating virtual conferences in schools.
It is not so easy for our young people. Especially this year. In normal times, I would not have done it, but it is important to give more help to young people ”, underlines the deputy at the outset.
Samuel Poulin indicates that like many of his parliamentary colleagues, we must do a little more during the pandemic, despite their heavy workload. “Several of my colleagues have done different things, such as going to help in a CHSLD. If my course can help two young people per class, that will be taken, ”he says.
In the member’s case, he was much more interested in extracurricular activities like student council than in math classes. Mr. Poulin had to take summer school, resort to homework help and even indulge in lunchtime recovery sessions to manage to pass his high school math and science classes. “I liked the story, but for me, sitting an hour and hearing about a subject that I didn’t like was difficult.”
If he was able to succeed in high school, Samuel Poulin, emphasizes that it is thanks to his parents. “My parents were extremely strict. Looking back, I understand why they were pressuring me. Besides, I didn’t want to disappoint them. They were stubborn. They encouraged me and when I thought about dropping out of school, they motivated me and I thank them for it, ”the MP understands today.
The importance of finding passions
With his virtual conferences with classes from his riding, Mr. Poulin wishes, by recounting his career and his difficulties at school, to convince young people of the importance of not giving up. According to him, the importance of finding passions, even more this year, allows us to get through the difficulties of school progress. “I can read all the financial frameworks in the world, even when I was in high school, and I couldn’t understand why I was being made to do algebra, for example,” he says.
Samuel Poulin remembers taking the bus to summer school while his friends went to have fun at the Valcatier Vacation Village. “The whole summer I was on edge. My friends were partying and I didn’t know if I was going to make it through my year. By telling this to the young people, I make them understand that the fact that I am determined today, it comes from the fact that I had to work a lot to pass my secondary school. This is what made the member that I am today ”.
Places available
During the months of March and April, Mr. Poulin will give free lectures in schools. He hopes that his career will allow young people to see that with effort and perseverance, they are able to finish high school.
Interested teachers can contact the MP by email at [email protected] and submit three one-hour time slots in March and April. Its offer is aimed at students in the sixth year of elementary school as well as young people in secondary 3, 4 and 5. “These are critical moments in adolescence when you question yourself. I want to send a signal that we must not let go, ”he concludes.
