What future for Sept-Îles city hall?

After having existed for decades in the most total indifference, the town hall of Sept-Îles has provoked many debates in recent weeks.

Does the building have heritage value or not? The Ministry of Culture and Communications will decide soon.

A request for the classification of the town hall under the heritage law was recently sent to him by an unidentified citizen.

Mayor Réjean Porlier does not know what this recognition, if granted, would entail obligations for the City of Sept-Îles, but the decision to build a new town hall is unshakeable.

“I understand that there is a process initiated with the ministry for the government to recognize it. No idea. No one today knows where it will end up. So we are going there for the new town hall. All this will take its course, ”Mayor Porlier told TVA Nouvelles on Monday.

The debate surrounding the town hall was launched because the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of the Côte-Nord needed the land it occupies for parking as part of a construction project. ‘an emergency and an operating theater.

However, a turnaround took place last week when the management of the health center indicated that it was now opting for the construction of a three-storey parking lot on another lot.

But according to the mayor of Sept-Îles, sooner or later it will be necessary to make room for the health center. At least that’s what the leaders tell him.

“They tell us they always need space. It’s just a matter of time so that we have to work with them to make space for them, ”Réjean Porlier said.

The project for the new town hall and its future location will be defined in the coming weeks.

As for the future vocation and the future of the current town hall, no project is currently under construction.
