It is a warning message. The latest episode in the conflict between Twitter and the Indian government. “Whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or WhatsApp or whoever it is, companies are free to work in India, to do business there, but they must respect the Constitution, they must respect Indian law ”, thundered the Minister of Justice and Information Technologies, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Thursday, February 11, in front of Parliament.
For several weeks, India and Twitter have been engaged in a fierce standoff. It all started at the end of January, when the government asked the California company to block hundreds of accounts. The latter disseminate, according to the government, “erroneous” information in connection with the large demonstrations of farmers, and can “lead to imminent violence affecting public order in the country”.
