Projects of the century and Corona determine the Kirchheim budget for 2021, which the municipal council has now approved.
The administrative budget for 2021 was approved unanimously at the main committee meeting in mid-December last year. That came back on the agenda in the local council. The town hall administration had currently incorporated some minor changes in the template, such as consulting costs or debt service levies. After the correction, the administrative budget includes income and expenditure of a good 41.7 million euros each. That is around six percent less than in 2020. Due to the corona pandemic, around 411,000 euros will be transferred from the property budget to the administrative budget and financed through loans. This allocation should actually have been one million euros – due to Corona, exceptions have resulted in the lower amount. The administrative budget was passed with only one vote against.
In the case of the property budget, six councils did not agree with the figures presented. This provides for income and expenditure of around 33.3 million euros each, which means an increase of 76 percent compared to the previous year. Updates were also made to this budget after the main committee meeting. For example, some projects have been postponed to the coming years, including the Kirchheim 2030 local development project. The largest expenditure items are the new town hall building (8.9 million euros), the renovation of the Kirchheimer Oval (five million euros) and the new building for children II with three million euros. Additional expenses will be posted for these projects in the following years. Overall, the budget for 2021 will be around 75 million euros, an increase of 19 percent compared to last year and, according to the administration, is considered a “record budget”.
Mayor Maximilian Böltl defended the budget proposals: “We have a high level of investment thanks to our projects of the century that will benefit future generations.” that “the community is still planning further projects.” Michaela Harlander (SPD) contradicted this: “I can live with the debt if we can use it to advance our place.
