The Consell’s Department of Culture, Cultural Heritage and Language Policy has given 150,000 euros in grants to companies and organizations promoting the use of Catalan.
As the Consell reported in a press release this Saturday (February 13th, 2021), the Department for Culture, Cultural Heritage and Language Policy published two calls for tenders worth 150,000 euros for grants to companies and organizations for actions that use promote the Catalan language.
Specifically, the insular institution has detailed for actions such as lettering, information posters, merchandising, business websites and letters with QR code, among other things. The grant application procedures can begin this Monday.

The Vice-President of the Consell and Island Council for Culture, Heritage and Linguistic Policy, Bel Busquets, said that “this call encourages the use of Catalan and at the same time is recommended in shops and especially in catering establishments that are constantly adapting to the circumstances of each moment the pandemic needed and will need ”.
With this in mind, Busquets recalled that “many companies have chosen to prioritize the local audience and use Catalan as the lingua franca in their advertising, signage and websites”. Now companies that have done this work can get some of the investment back, and those who haven’t already have an incentive to do so, given the cost between September 1, 2018 and April 30, 2021 be subsidized, she stressed.
In the tender for the promotion of the use of Catalan for this year 2021, two lines of subsidy are foreseen, one with 100,000 euros, which is aimed at companies and communities of property in Mallorca that meet the requirements set out in the tender, and another with 50,000 euros, which is aimed at associative or organizational units that are not profit-oriented and are definitely entered in the relevant register of the island.
Thus, the eligible actions include signage in Catalan in facilities and vehicles, labeling – information on the composition, properties, ingredients, etc. of the product – in Catalan and the publication of printed matter on paper – advertising brochures, brochures, leaflets, scraps , Business cards, cards, posters, administrative or accounting documents, etc. – in Catalan.
Eligible actions also include the publication of menus in Catalan; the publication of merchandising in Catalan – stickers, calendars, diaries, bookmarks, bags, mugs, t-shirts, roll-up screens, etc. -; the publication of websites, internet portals, QR codes, mobile applications and all kinds of online platforms in the Catalan language.
The deadline for applying for funding begins next Monday, February 15, which is 20 working days and ends on March 15.
