Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have become the first person to reach 500 million subscribers on social media platforms.
The Portuguese superstar became the all-time leading scorer in football history earlier this year, scoring his 760th professional football goal in Supercoppa Italiana’s victory over Napoli. Pele and Josef Bican stans however contested this record.
However, even Pelé can’t deny Ronaldo in his latest achievement, after he became the first person to reach half a billion social media followers.
He is the most popular account on Instagram, where 262 million others follow his account. His Facebook page has nearly 125 million likes and 147 million subscribers, and an additional 91 million people follow him on Twitter. According to a report published by The Sun.
Outside of the heavy hitters, he also has over a million subscribers on his official YouTube channel, although the account has been fairly inactive for long periods of time.
Ronaldo’s last Instagram post was a photo of him with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, who herself has 23.6 million followers.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi (because the two are the most always compared of course) has 265 million subscribers across all platforms.
Ronaldo’s 262 million Instagram followers eclipse those of Messi, who has garnered just 183 million followers. To be fair, the Argentinian posted less than 1,000 times to his account, while frequent user Ronaldo offered more than 3,000 photos to his loyal followers.
The message is therefore clear. Messi needs to improve his game to catch Ronaldo in this online war. But the Juventus superstar appears to be unassailable in this area as his popularity only grows year by year.
