Borussia Dortmund is still threatened with falling into the mediocrity of the Bundesliga. BVB did not get more than 2: 2 (1: 1) against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday. The provisional transfer of captain Marco Reus to the bench had little effect, Dortmund could be displaced from sixth place this weekend. Bayer Leverkusen missed the possible temporary jump to third place by conceding late goals to 2-2 (1-0) against relegation-threatened FSV Mainz 05.
At VfB Stuttgart, ex-national team player Sami Khedira scored 1-1 (0-1) with Hertha BSC at the old place of work. The newcomer from Berlin came on after an hour and played his 100th Bundesliga game. Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg parted in mid-table with a goalless draw.
BVB took the lead in a varied game through Jadon Sancho (24th minute), but Munas Dabbur (31st) scored a little later to equalize. In the Hoffenheim tour by Ihlas Bebou (51.), BVB goalkeeper Marwin Hitz did not cut a good figure. Reus came on in the 59th minute, Erling Haaland (81st) scored for the final score.
With Khedira’s substitution, Hertha played more forcefully
Khedira, who comes from the youth of VfB and became champion with the Swabians in 2007, saw an extremely inconspicuous first half for Berlin from the bench. The Stuttgart tour by Sasa Kalajdzic (45th + 1) was checked for a long time because of an offside suspicion. With Khedira’s substitution, Hertha played more forcefully, the 17-year-old Luca Netz (82nd) managed to equalize on presentation of the newcomer.
Lauterbach: “Football professionals should also be role models”
Leverkusen and Mainz had to do without a prominent grandstand guest who had to cancel his planned visit at short notice. National coach Joachim Löw had problems arriving and therefore did not see the Leverkusen opening goal from Lucas Alario (14th). After Patrik Schick’s 2-0 win (84th), Robert-Nesta Glatzel (89th) and Kevin Stöger (90th + 2) rewarded the FSV for a strong final phase.
Bremen and Freiburg delivered a pretty intense game without many chances. The sports club remained without a shot on goal in the first half.
