Lhe areas licensed for construction in Bolívar grew in 2020 by 10.5%, compared to 2019 according to Dane’s annual report.
Last year, 698,993 square meters of construction were licensed, compared to 632,413 reported in 2019.
Housing, as has been traditional, represents the highest percentage of licensed square meters in 2020 (540,585) with a 77.33% share of the total.
Of these licensed square meters, 258,168 corresponded to Social Interest Housing (VIS), distributed as follows: houses, 55,383 m² and apartments, 202,785. In the No VIS segment, 282,417 m² were licensed (houses with 29,807 m² and apartments 252,610 m²). By number of licensed units, the VIS were 3,955 (houses 1,070 and apartments 2,885) and the Non-VIS, 1,909 (houses 204 and apartments 1,705), for a grand total of 5,864 units.
The other most representative destinations in the licensing in Bolívar were: hotel, warehouse, and office, with shares of 9.23%, 4.53% and 4.02%, respectively.
With the square meters licensed last year, the department of Bolívar achieved a 4.18% share of the national total.
The municipalities that provided information for the Bolívar data are: Cartagena, Magangué, Achí, Arjona, Clemencia, El Carmen de Bolívar, El Peñón, Mompox, San Cristóbal, Santa Rosa, Turbaco, Turbana and Villanueva.

In 2020, 16,708,689 m² were licensed for building, while in 2019 they were 23,222,231 m², which represented a decrease of 28.0%. This result is explained by the decrease of 32.6% in the area approved for non-residential destinations and 26.8% for housing, the Dane report indicates.
“The main contribution to the reduction of the approved area was registered in the departments of Cundinamarca and Antioquia, when they jointly subtract 15.4 percentage points from the variation of the approved area (-28.0%), compared to 2019. Magdalena, Bolívar, Caldas and Meta added 1.3 percentage points to the variation of the twelve months ”, indicates the report of the entity.
