North Korea is a top priority for the United States

WASHINGTON, Feb.12 (Reuters) – North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs are a top priority for Washington, which remains committed to the country being denuclearized, the US State Department announced on Friday.

North Korea has continued to develop its nuclear and missile programs in recent years, “making it a top priority for the United States as we approach with our partners and allies,” said Ned Price, spokesperson of the State Department.

The Biden administration said it was conducting an assessment of North Korean policies by cooperating with its allies, particularly South Korea and Japan.

According to a confidential United Nations report seen by Reuters, North Korea maintained and developed its nuclear and ballistic programs in 2020, in violation of international sanctions.

During his election campaign, Joe Biden called Kim Jong-un a “thug” and said he would only meet him “if he agreed to reduce his nuclear capacity.”
