If the metropolis of Lyon is expecting a particularly intense snowfall today, the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region is not left out: 10 out of 12 departments (Rhône, Ain, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Drôme, Ardèche, Loire, Puy-de-Dôme, Allier) are currently on orange “snow and ice” vigilance. The confrontation of two masses of cold and temperate air leads to two phenomena: snow on the Rhône-Alpes part and freezing rain in Auvergne.
Faced with this situation, the prefect of the AuRA region, Pascal Mailhos, has taken the following measures: banning the movement of heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes, limiting the speed of light vehicles to 70 km / h, as well as restricting traffic on the motorways between Lyon and Chambéry, and between Chambéry and Italy via Annecy. In addition, the emergency and crisis management services as well as the security forces (police and gendarmerie) are currently mobilized.
