Nicaragua brought Marcia and Gerritt from all over the world together as hosts in Central America. Born as a gastro child, Marcia graduated from the tourism school in Samedan and before taking the big step of turning her back on Switzerland, she worked as an event manager and partly in her father’s mountain restaurant. Gerritt, on the other hand, was born on the sunny islands of Hawaii and completed his studies in anthropology in Santa Barbara. He discovered his love for the garden and permaculture when he was traveling.
Marcia actually wanted to leave the country in spring 2020. For known reasons, however, it was autumn 2020. At Gerritt it seems as if he came to Nicaragua almost by chance: “I wanted to go on vacation to Mexico with my girlfriend for two weeks. In the end it was nine months in which we traveled to Mexico together. Since my partner didn’t want to go back to Switzerland, but couldn’t come to the USA with me either, we decided to go straight to Nicaragua when the borders south of Mexico opened again. “
In Nicaragua, Marica and Gerritt host the «Amaru Wellbeing Resort». With Amaru you are committed to sustainability. «We work closely with the locals from the region. Because they are our workforce but also our vegetable and fish suppliers. ” For their countless projects in the garden and around the house, the two drive twice a week to the nearest town Chinandega, which is 40 minutes away. The tasks in the Amaru are clearly distributed: Gerritt is responsible for the maintenance of the site, the gardens and the coordination of activities. Marcia, on the other hand, is responsible for logistics, communication with suppliers, employees and guests. She runs the social media and together they serve the guests at the bar and in the bistro. Sometimes you can also find them in the kitchen or in the yoga studio. Whenever possible, however, the two try to surf the water and take plenty of time to meditate. “We are incredibly grateful that we can use the diversity of this place as well as our guests.”

The diverse activities outside the water are also very promising: “In addition to surfing and yoga lessons, we also offer numerous exciting tours. With us you can book romantic rides on the beach, go hiking on volcanoes, fish or visit historically interesting colonial cities. »
