Rostock-Laage Airport is apparently left empty-handed when it comes to federal corona aid. The black-red coalition in Berlin has agreed to only support the larger airports.
There will be 600 million euros in government aid – the majority will go to the three airports with federal participation in Berlin, Munich and Cologne-Bonn. Twelve airports, which are said to be of great importance in terms of transport policy, are also receiving support. Rostock-Laage apparently falls through the grid like all other regional airports.
Management: Actually in the professional ban
Dörthe Hausmann, managing director at Rostock-Laage Airport, told NDR 1 Radio MV that the constant travel warnings and lockdowns meant that one was effectively banned from working. “Our fixed costs continue to run. So it would have been important to decide that all airports really benefit from the Covid aid. We have sent a large part of our colleagues on short-time work. This enables us to save personnel costs in the area.” 70 percent of the costs of the airport are personnel costs. According to Hausmann, everything will be done to persevere. However, it is not fair if airports do not carry out travel traffic due to pandemic reasons and still cannot apply for assistance.
Rostock-Laage Airport has announced layoffs
The country’s largest airport, like other regional airports, is suffering from the Corona crisis, due to the massive drop in passenger numbers, layoffs were announced last autumn. The company, in which the district of Rostock, the city of Laage and indirectly also the city of Rostock are involved, is dependent on regular state subsidies. There is also special aid from Schwerin from the Corona rescue package: 750,000 euros are planned to ensure the continued existence of the airport. A vaccination center for the district has also been located there since mid-January.
