Insurance scams: a Lodévois couple sued for € 59,530 in false invoices

A couple from Lodévois recently appeared before the Montpellier judicial court for insurance scams committed between September 17, 2014 and November 29, 2018.

In this case, their insurance company accused them of having made false invoices for a total amount of € 59,530.

For the first two claims related to natural disasters, suffered in 2014 (mudslide collapsing the wall of an outbuilding) and in 2015 (heavy rain that damaged an electrical box), the main suspect explained that the invoices transmitted had issued by its construction company, liquidated in 2016.

As for the last incident (facade vandalized in 2016), he called on a craftsman who “asked us to pay it in cash. So to get reimbursed, I sent invoices from my company,” he said. he explained to the bar of the court.

Obligation to compensate the victim

Unacceptable behavior for the public prosecutor who required against them eight months in prison with a probationary stay with the obligation to compensate the victim.

For its part, their board was surprised at such a procedure because for each claim, an expert was appointed to establish the cost of the work. The case has been put under advisement, judgment will be rendered on April 6.
