The A40 had been closed between Valserhône and Nantua, towards Lyon, since 5 am this morning. At issue: a ventilation failure which resulted in the closure, in this sense, of the Châtillon-en-Michaille tunnel.
“Last night, a technical incident led to the closure of the tunnel”, indicates the prefecture of Ain before affirming that “traffic is now restored, with a sharing of the tunnel tube in the opposite direction”.
Traffic is therefore done on a single lane, without a central separator. Users are advised to exercise the utmost caution, observing the signs on the motorway, and listening to 107.7.
According to the prefecture, a full recovery of the situation should be made possible at the end of the day, or tomorrow.
Watch out for snow and ice
The winter driving conditions are difficult this Thursday morning in the sectors of Faucille, Revermont and Nord-Bugey, even difficult in the Bugey sector by roads made slippery due to the formation of ice due to negative temperatures and the dampness of the pavements.
There is indeed 5 cm of snow above an altitude of 600 m in the Champagne sector. But also ice in the sectors of Cerdon, Simandre, Oyonnax and La Cluse.
But it is especially in the Hautevile, Brénod and Saint-Rambert sectors that the road is the most dangerous with the combined presence of ice and snow.
Elsewhere in the department, traffic conditions are expected to be normal.
Weather forecast
Sunny breaks and cloudy passages share the sky this morning. Clouds are starting to cloud the sky this afternoon and will thicken over the hours as evening approaches. Temperatures will not exceed 4 ° C in the plains and -1 ° C in the Haut Jura.
And it will still be cold next night between -1 ° in the Rhône Valley and down to -6 ° C at altitude.
