M5S, Di Battista’s tear

(Adnkronos)

The response of the Rousseau platform on the Draghi government returns the photograph of a split movement and, perhaps, on the verge of a split. 59.3% of M5S members (over 44 thousand people) have given the green light to the entry of the 5 Star Movement in the next executive which will be led by the former ECB number one. But the rebellious frond is not there and, starting with Alessandro Di Battista, threatens the tear.

It is precisely the former deputy – while the management team, from Luigi Di Maio to Vito Crimi, rejoices at the victory of the ‘yes’ – to announce during a live Facebook the ‘divorce’ from the Movement: “From now on – says Di Battista – I will no longer speak on behalf of the 5 Star Movement also because at this moment the Movement does not speak in my name… I can not help but step aside ”. “Indigestible” for Di Battista the outcome of the vote. “But I respect that,” he points out. The “political choice to sit with certain characters, in particular with parties like Forza Italia, in a government born essentially to systematize the M5S and bring down a respectable president like Conte … I just can’t get over this thing”, he vented former parliamentarian.

But that does not exclude the ‘return’: “If one day my path were to cross again with that of the M5S, we will see: it will depend exclusively on political ideas, attitudes and positions”.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary troop is in turmoil. And not all the elected representatives who favor the ‘no’ accept the result of the vote. Someone speaks openly about the risk of splitting. “It is a dynamic that should not be ruled out”, explains deputy Pino Cabras, who adds: “I will not trust Draghi if these are the conditions, no one knows the program. To convince me, Draghi should surprise me with special effects “.

“Today’s vote was a bad page for democracy,” Senator Emanuele Dessì comments with Adnkronos. My colleague Mattia Crucioli makes it known that he will not vote for confidence in the Chamber, just like the deputy Andrea Colletti (“at 99% I will say no”). For Elio Lannutti – one of the fiercest opponents of the Draghi government -, on the other hand, Rousseau’s is a “binding” vote that “requires voting confidence in the new government”. On the same wavelength Danilo Toninelli, who despite having voted ‘no’ on Rousseau is back in the ranks: “The vote must be respected. It won’t be easy, but we’ll give it our all ”.

Senator Barbara Lezzi, a loyal Di Battista, at least for now does not comment on the response of the virtual polls. The next few weeks will be crucial for the destiny of the Movement and a new visit to Rome by Beppe Grillo is not excluded, who will have the task of compacting a torn Movement, leading it towards yet another turning point in its history.
