Everton and West Ham United’s target Nikola Maksimovic was reported to be eliminated by Napoli, former Partenopei star Salvatore Bagni told Radio Marte via TuttoNapoli.
With his contract expiring and the future shrouded in uncertainty, it could be understood if the Serbian international felt distracted.
He certainly seemed distracted when Napoli suffered a seventh loss of the season, and a third of 2021, in Genoa on Saturday.

Maksimovic gave up possession in preparation for Goran Pandev’s opener and, with Gennaro Gattuso’s work hanging by a thread, the experienced center-back may have unknowingly driven a nail into his coach’s coffin.
According to Il Mattino, Maksimovic has fans in West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham, while Carlo Ancelotti, who worked with him at Stadio San Paolo, could spark a reunion at Goodison Park.
And Bagni, who made more than 100 Serie A appearances for Napoli in the 1980s, believes Maksimovic should be eliminated until his future is resolved.

“Maksimovic? I agree that players with expiring contracts should not play, ”says Bagni.
“I don’t want to blame in particular (for Genoa’s first goal), but the transition was very simple.”
West Ham was willing to pay £ 23 million for the former Torino cap and Red Star Belgrade in the summer.
According to Calciomercato, they could soon get it for free as Napoli is unwilling to meet Maksimovic’s demands for a new £ 40,000-a-week contract.
