Argentina exceeds two million cases of COVID

Argentina on Wednesday exceeded two million coronavirus infections. On the same day, the government announced that it would send a plane to Russia to search for more of the long-awaited Sputnik V vaccines, the only ones that are being applied to the population.

The Ministry of Health reported 7,739 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infected to 2,001,034 since the first infection was detected in the South American country in March 2020.

With this confirmation, Argentina is in the 12th position of countries with the most infections according to the count kept by the Johns Hopkins center.

In turn, there were 109 deaths in the last 24 hours, totaling 49,674

Meanwhile, the state-owned Aerolineas Argentinas confirmed the departure on Wednesday of a fourth flight to Moscow to search for new doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, whose production is being delayed due to the increase in demand.

Argentina was the first country in Latin America to acquire the Russian vaccine at the end of December, even before the phase 3 clinical studies were published in an independent specialized journal. Although it negotiates with other laboratories, so far it is the only vaccine that is being applied to health professionals and personnel, the first in the immunization plan.

The flight with the most doses will return to Buenos Aires last Friday at noon, confirmed Aerolineas Argentinas.
