New York declares a measles emergency on parts of Brooklyn

(dpa) After a spike in measles cases, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared a state of emergency for parts of Brooklyn. Everyone who lives in certain parts of the Williamsburg neighborhood must be vaccinated against measles, de Blasio said at a press conference on Tuesday. Otherwise, fines of up to $ 1,000 could be imposed. The affected parts of Brooklyn are mostly Orthodox Jews.
