The City Council of Granadilla de Abona addresses the problem of intrusion in the taxi

Municipal representatives, of the security and transport forces and bodies, take up the periodic meetings to address this problem

The plenary hall of the City Council of Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife) hosted a coordination meeting to address the problem of intrusion in the taxi public transport sector.

The meeting was chaired by the mayor, José Domingo Regalado.

It also had the assistance of the councilors of Security, Transportation and Works, María Candelaria Rodríguez; Fredi Oramas and Conchi Cabrera, respectively, as well as representatives of the Local Police, Civil Guard, Aena, inspection service of the Cabildo de Tenerife, and the president of the Association of Taxis of Granadilla de Abona and the vice president of the Regional Federation of Taxis.

José Domingo Regalado states that the periodic meetings that have been held to address this problem suffered by the sector are being resumed, even more so if we take into account the crisis situation derived from the pandemic, which has severely affected this activity, directly linked in our municipality to the airport.

He added that collaboration synergies between the different security forces and bodies must continue.

In addition, he is grateful for the assistance, involvement and willingness of all those who attended the meeting to work hand in hand for the better well-being of our population and of the Granadilla de Abona taxi workers.

The municipal head of Transport, Fredi Oramas, argues that since March, the taxi sector has suffered especially a hard blow, due first to the closing of borders and, later, to the shortage of flights due to the health crisis of COVID-19.

Also, the representatives of the taxi sector at the local level exposed the importance of continuing with the inspections in the airport premises and, on the part of the regional federation, support was requested for the modification of the Canary Islands Transport Law in different aspects of the regulations, especially those relating to intrusion.

Finally, the mayor emphasizes that this joint work team has been developing periodically in order to fight against this serious problem in a “more effective” way and that it not only affects the taxi sector, but also the quality of transport and the provision of services. a vital service such as the mobility of people.
