Kottayam: Mani C Kappan has repeatedly stated that he will contest in the Pala seat itself. Kappan, who held talks with Sharad Pawar in Delhi, is expected to make a final decision on his UDF entry by Friday. Meanwhile, the rift between Mani C Kappan and AK Shashidran in the NCP over leaving the LDF is becoming more apparent. To the question whether AK Shashindran will go to Congress AC, Mani C Kappan replied that this is what they are hearing and that he can go anywhere.
Kappan said he did not think AK Shashindran would come with him if he left the front. Kappan scoffed that AK Shashidran’s statement that other parties should leave when new parties come to the front is foolish. Mani C Kappan said that Shashindra had replied that he could move to Elathur and that he had come here to contest in Kuttanad and that he had not mentioned the matter since then.
Asked if he would leave the LDF, Kappan said, “You can only guess. Mullappally Ramachandran, who was invited to the Congress and offered a hand sign, also replied. The captain made it clear that he would not compete in any of the palmistry. Kappan said he had only spoken to Chief Minister Shashindra about the Pala seat.
When Shashindran informed them that they would take the Pala seat, he made it clear that he would not contest in Kuttanad. His wife and children had demanded that the Kuttanad seat be given to Thomas Chandy’s younger brother. He also gave a letter to the Left Front. So taking that seat is rude. He will win again from Pala to the Assembly. “If Jose K. Mani wants to go to the Vatican, the pope is different,” he said.
