“I am here. I am not a cat,” assured a lawyer in Texas on Wednesday, who had the misfortune of appearing as a kitten during a videoconference hearing with a judge. The footage sparked hilarity on social media.
In the video, the lawyer can be seen, with the Zoom video conferencing tool’s chat filter activated, scrambling to explain the situation to a compassionate judge. “I believe you have a filter activated,” said the magistrate first.
The defender, whose voice seems to emanate from an increasingly anxious white kitten asks him: “Can you hear me, Judge?” “I hear you. I think it’s a filter …”, replied the magistrate.
“If I can make the country laugh”
“It is,” confirms the cat, nodding. “And I don’t know how to remove it. I have my assistant here. She’s trying, but I’m ready to go on with it. […] I am here. I am not a cat, “objected the lawyer.
“I can see that,” assures him the judge, who sent a tweet a few hours later, saying the incident underscored the dedication of the justice sector despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19.
“If I can make the country laugh for a moment in these difficult times […] I am happy that this is done at my expense, “the lawyer added to several American media.
