the company Sabella has just bought patents from General Electric

The Finistère company Sabella had been noticed for its D 10 tidal turbine submerged in the Fromveurau offshore Ouessant, now under maintenance in the port of Brest. Today, Sabella continues to develop and has just acquired the patents and assets of GE Renewable Energy, the branch dedicated to renewable energies of General Electric. For Marlène Moutel, sales engineer and communications manager at Sabella, these buybacks represent a real opportunity. “The idea is to find the technological building blocks that will interest us and combine with our activities to improve the performance and reliability of our tidal turbines.”

A sector in search of competitiveness

The price of tidal power is still high compared to other renewable energies. For Sabella, the challenge is therefore to be more competitive in this market.. “But tidal turbines have an advantage over other energies, it is a fully predictable resource, an asset when you want to integrate renewable energies into a network”, recalls Marlène Moutel. Ultimately, the acquisition of these new patents could allow Sabella to build a more efficient tidal turbine.
