Berlin (dpa) – 1. FC Union Berlin has not only overtaken local rivals Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Köpenickers were able to welcome 2215 new members last year and thus, with a total of 37,360 members, overtook the Charlottenburgers (37,192 members) as the largest association in the capital.
Hertha was happy about an increase of 481 members, but recorded a total of 168 members less than the local rival last year. This was the result of the new membership statistics of the Berlin State Sports Association, which the LSB published on February 9th. In the Bundesliga, Union ranks ninth in the table after 20 games, surprisingly well ahead of Hertha, which has relegation concerns as 15th.
