New musical works by established and emerging artists are added to the list of projects recently selected to participate in the 20th edition of the Tunisian Song Festival, scheduled from March 30 to April 30, 2021.
Last January, the festival announced a list of 35 nominated artists in the four categories of the competition: “Instrumental song”, “Committed song”, “Free creation” and “Video clip”.
The National Establishment for the Promotion of Festivals and Cultural and Artistic Events announced on Tuesday the selection of 8 new works. The works were distributed as follows: 8 for the instrumental song, 6 for the engaged song, 4 for the free creation and 18 for the Video-clip.
The institution explained this change by the large number of applications received by the organizing committee of the festival. The goal is to encourage artists to present their new creations, indicates the same source.
According to the final list, several artists previously selected no longer appear in the race for the festival’s charts. Some works that do not meet the festival’s regulations have been excluded, the organizers previously explained.
The creation of the Tunisian song festival dates back to the 1960s. After an absence of 11 years, the festival is back in its 20th edition which was to take place in 2020.
This annual event has been postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions that have been decided throughout the previous year. It aims to strengthen the influence of Tunisian song at the national, Arab and international level.
According to the regulations, the candidates represent several regions of the country. In each regional pole, a committee has been created for each of the 4 categories. Each of the committees is made up of the regional delegate for culture and three artists (poet, composer and singer).
The central selection committee is made up of Abdelhakim Belgaied (composer), Chahrazade Hlel (singer), Riadh Bedoui (musician), Abdelbasset Mosthal (cellist musician), Hmida Jerraya (poet) and Salah Hmidet (committed singer).
