Rodgau: CDU application for urban land rejected

The CDU demands that city councilors have a say in the award of urban land. The group does not find a majority.

Should the city councilors in Rodgau have a say in what criteria urban plots are awarded? Opinions were divided on this question in the last session of the current legislative period. The parliamentarians argued for an hour on Monday evening.

The heated exchange of words was triggered by a motion by the CDU parliamentary group that the magistrate should submit the criteria for the award of urban land and land marketed by the Treuhandgesellschaft Hessische Landgesellschaft (HLG) to parliament for consultation and resolution.

The current regulation is different: the magistrate, as the highest administrative body, had already created an award catalog years ago, according to which the HLG first buys and then sells plots of land for development on behalf of the city. The HLG decides in each building area who will be awarded the contract for the property and adheres to the relevant guidelines from the award catalog.

The CDU had requested that points such as family income, place of residence, financial circumstances and other social aspects should be taken into account when awarding the property. Volunteers could for example get more points in a rating. It would make sense to manifest the award criteria for the properties through a city council resolution, said CDU chairman Clemens Jäger, and made it clear that a “transparent and open procedure” is required.

The practice of awarding, which works really well at the HLG, should not be talked to and torn apart, said Jürgen Kaiser (SPD). Ultimately, the CDU failed with its application. 21 city councilors voted in favor, 24 against.
