Yin Lin is the new chairperson of the Migrants Advisory Council. The 31-year-old Chinese woman was elected to the top in the constituent session on Thursday (February 4th). Ten years ago she studied history in Freiburg. She is currently working as a project coordinator in the field of intercultural exchange at the Studierendenwerk Freiburg.
Claire Désenfant is the new Vice-Chair of the newly elected Advisory Board. The 66-year-old French woman has lived in Freiburg for 16 years, and in Germany since she was 17 years old. She is involved with grandmas against the law for democracy and human dignity and with the Pro GemeinWohl association. The advisory board will therefore be led by a top female duo in the future. Both would like to thank all voters on behalf of the entire advisory board for the trust and high turnout in December 2020.

The Migrant Advisory Board is a municipal political body of the city of Freiburg, which is re-elected every five years – most recently on December 13th. He represents the interests of people in Freiburg with an immigrant background. The newly elected advisory board met for the first time on Thursday. For many years, representatives of the Migrant Advisory Council have been represented as competent members of the municipal committee for migration and integration and the committee for schools and further education. The new advisory board also decided on these positions. Sofia Alemann (Argentina), Jascha Hilkowitz (England) and Ralph Ucheh (Nigeria) were elected to the Committee on Migration and Integration. Ardawan Abdi (Iraq), Ali Sari (Syria) and Mariana Vargas Ustares (Argentina) were elected as their representatives. Thelma Basil (Cameroon) was elected to the Committee for Schools and Further Education, represented by Fedoua Hamman (Morocco) in the future.
The official appointment will take place shortly through the municipal council.

The work of the advisory board can be followed on its homepage (migrantenbeiratfreiburg.de) as well as on Facebook (@ Migrantinnen- und Migrantenbeirat der Stadt Freiburg).

The advisory board is supported in its work by an office located at the Office for Migration and Integration. Contact: Laura Spudeit, [email protected], Tel .: 0761 201 6342.
