With 6,047,303 tonnes accumulated at the end of December 2020, i.e. an overall decrease of 11.21%, the port of Bordeaux limits breakage and contains the impact of the health crisis thanks to the mobilization of all stakeholders in the port area.
The main sectors that recorded the largest drop in imports are: refined products 3,220,878 tonnes (-10.8%), oilseeds 416,937 tonnes (-18.7%), fertilizers and raw materials 391,282 tons (-13.8%), building materials 195,606 tons (-17.90%), coal 50,941 tons (-57.46%). The activity of the cruise sector, whose 2020 season has been completely canceled when it promises to be a new record with 64 scheduled liners, has suffered the full impact of the crisis.
For all these sectors, the Covid-19 effect is undeniable: less mobility, lower consumption, administrative closures and slowdown in industrial activities.
However, some positive figures should be highlighted, in particular for Cereals for export 608 233 tonnes (+ 6.5%), with a good start to the season, an increase in oilseeds for export also 197 569 tonnes (+21 , 4%) supported by the crushing activity of the Saipol plant, scrap 82,597 tonnes (+ 49.57%) thanks to the dynamism of the Derichebourg group in Bassens and the installation of a new player, not to mention full containers with 22,137 TEU entries + exits and a good increase in imports (+ 28.6%), to end in an exceptional month of December at + 37%.
