Twisted, twisted, twisted, helical, twisted, gedreht bell towers … so many qualifiers to designate European bell towers which have the same architecture. And for the most part, the municipalities that have one of these architectural gems belong to the association Les Clochers tors d’Europe, of which Jean Dreuil was for a time the president. The Les Clochers tors d’Europe association brings together the owners or their representatives of civil or religious buildings with a spiral roof located in Europe. The purpose of this association is to promote tourism and culture of the heritage of members, to centralize research on the origin and history of these steeple spiers, to create links between member members and all events of interest to these buildings, specifies among other things the charter of this association.
“The small Gascon village on the left bank of the Garonne has a unique twisted steeple in Lot-et-Garonne and as such is part of the association”, confides the mayor of the village, Jean Dreuil. And it is also in 2019 that the village celebrated the 30 years of the reconstruction of the famous bell tower.
