Vienna (OTS / SK) – SPÖ politicians from Salzburg, Upper Austria and Lower Austria have absolutely no sympathy for the ÖVP finance minister, who wants to halve the long-distance train access on the western route. Yesterday, the “emergency award” from spring expired, which ensured long-distance traffic at the usual frequency. The finance minister refuses to release the funds for an extension. The SPÖ calls on Blümel to “end his railway blockade”. The Upper Austrian SPÖ member of the National Council and traffic spokesman for his party, Alois Stöger, demanded “a word of power from Chancellor Kurz to his finance minister”. ****
Stöger considers the ÖVP’s approach to be “madness”: “The Turks want to put the health of tens of thousands of rail passengers at risk for a petty dispute with their green government partner.”
The Salzburg SPÖ boss and Federal Councilor David Egger says: “It cannot be that the federal government is carrying out its turquoise-green coalition dispute on the back of commuters and is so indebted that every second train connection along the western line is canceled. Even and especially in a pandemic, people must be able to rely on the public infrastructure. I therefore call on Finance Minister Gernot Blümel to extend the emergency award immediately. “
The Lower Austrian member of the National Council and energy spokesman for the SPÖ, Alois Schroll, says: “Lower Austria is a country with many commuters. The cancellation of trains is a slap in the face for the many people who take the train to work or school every day, and it is also irresponsible from a climate policy perspective. The finance minister should not carry his turquoise-green infight on people’s backs and immediately release the necessary funds for regular rail traffic! ”(Conclusion) bj / wf
