Zimbabwe president appoints new foreign minister – Xinhua

HARARE, Feb.8 (Xinhua) – Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Frederick Shava as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, replacing Sibusiso Moyo, who died last month of complications from COVID-19

Mischeck Sibanda, chief secretary of the presidential cabinet, announced the appointment in a statement released on Monday.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Shava was Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the United Nations.

Mr. Shava was also Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to China from 2007 to 2014.

Mr Mnangagwa has been forced to announce new appointments following the death of three ministers, all of whom succumbed to COVID-19 last month.

Felix Tapiwa Mhona was appointed Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, while Nokuthula Mutsekenyi became Minister of State for Provincial Affairs of Manicaland.
