The original elements of the Saint-Pierre hospital in Brussels heritage

The old Saint-Pierre hospital, built between 1929 and 1935, no longer exists in its original state. The main building has disappeared, but the administrative wing, the nursing school and the entrance pavilion of the complex have been preserved. These three parts of art-deco style are today protected, as Brussels heritage.

“This is the high point of the career of Jean-Baptiste Dewin, specializing in the design of hospitals. We are permanently conserving what remains of this art-deco complex. It will thus remain a remarkable example of hospital buildings from the beginning of the 20th century “, explains the Secretary of State.

The old hospital reflects the sober and decorative style of architect Dewin. A few picturesque details are still standing, such as the attic that covers the entrance pavilion and the arrangement of the corridors between the hospital blocks.

The Brussels CPAS now occupies the old hospital complex. It was he who submitted a request for protection. Shops have been set up on the lower floors, overlooking Rue Haute.
